Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
This great verse is among the last which the apostle Paul wrote. It is a reflection upon his remarkable life and an encouragement to all believers. Note:
I. The importance of personal participation in the work of God’s Kingdom.
God had plan for Paul, a road for him to follow, a work for him to accomplish. He has a plan for each believer. In the final analysis, the plan God has for each believer is no less important than the one he had for Paul. Each person plays a part in the completion of God’s great work. Do not undervalue your part in His Kingdom. You are important.
II. The imperative of faithfulness to His call
The “all things” in the original Greek is a single word meaning “all.” I am reminded that “all things,” a plenary accomplishment, is comprised of a number of individual things. The secret to accomplishing all things is to rely upon the Lord’s power to accomplish each small thing we are directed by Him to do. Doing the things one by one add up to “all things.”
III. The word “strengthens” indicates a continuous action
The Lord supplies ability for each task in an ongoing manner. We never lack the power to accomplish any work.
Our part is faithfulness. When we consistently report for duty, we continuously receive His strengthening. We receive the same power which the Apostle Paul received. Through Jesus, we truly can do all things.
